About Galtür

About Galtür

Ernest Hemingway called it an “alpine idyll” in 1926, and the lovely village of Galtür in the Tyrolean Silvretta has lost none of its charm. The highest ski village in the area and one of the highest in the Alps, at 1585m, Galtür is quiet, traditional and family friendly.

The superb slopes, which reach up to 2,295m, cater for all abilities, from children and beginners right up to challenging off-piste runs and an unforgettable two-mile black run. There are also night-skiing opportunities on Wednesdays.

The nine lifts, from the hamlet of Wirl less than a mile from the village centre, are more than enough for the demand. They include two fast chairs and an eight-seat gondola, cutting down the queues to a minimum.

Only a five-minute bus ride from the village is the Galtür Silvapark, with 40km of pistes. There’s an area designed so that children can have fun safely, and another aimed specifically at teenagers. There are off-piste and freeriding opportunities for the experts, while those who enjoy more sedate exercise can enjoy cross-country skiing, winter walking and snowshoeing.

As if all this weren’t enough, the Silvretta lift pass gives you access to the whole region, including Ischgl a mere 10km away and accessible by a free bus. The Silvretta offers 330km of wonderful pistes, plenty of exciting off-piste opportunities, and perhaps the best snowboarding in the whole of the Alps.

Galtür is a quiet village, though it offers a wide range of hotels and ski apartments. There are also plenty of restaurants, both in the village itself and in picturesque locations on the mountains, which combine traditional food and atmosphere with superb service. If you’re looking for a livelier evening, though, it’s easy to get to Ischgl, famous for its après-ski, where you can party all night.

Whatever you want from a ski holiday, it’s within easy reach of Galtür. Come and find out why this lovely village has been enchanting people for decades.
